Developer News 14/08/97 Shockwave SNAFU --------------- Something had to go wrong somewhere; unfortunately the versions of the Director player and Shockwave plugin which were cut to the Developer CD were somewhat earlier than they should have been. This is what can sometimes happen when you have a week in which to build a CD image; ho hum. To fix this problem, the versions which should have shipped are now on the Developer WWW site as http://www.art.acorn.co.uk/SALES/DEVELOPERS/resource/updates/directorbeta.arc ; as I had to obtain the appropriate clearance to upload this release, it is no longer subject to NDA although it must still be recognised that the code is beta and all restrictions on its distribution outside your company still apply. The version on the site contains the up-to-date !Run file,as supplied in the conference pack on the patch floppy. Two known problems exist in this version: 16 bit sound will not play correctly (the player does not crash, but the speaker emits garbage) and the overlaying of multiple castmember objects which contain transparency can result in video garbage in their vicinity (the redraw code can produce black rectangles). You also get some sample movies this time :-) New Appnote ----------- Owing to a number of developer requests for information on the subject, I've put together a small Application Note which describes how to determine in software which processor type is fitted to the machine the software is running on. The appnote in question, number 276, can be found as http://www.art.acorn.co.uk/SALES/DEVELOPERS/resource/docs/appnotes/276.arc or .ps. The appnote only covers differentiation between processor architectures at the moment, but may be expanded in the future to cover differentiation between I/O controllers, etc if demand requires. Updated Price List ------------------ The Developer Price List has been updated to include the A7000+ etc. It can be found, as usual, as http://www.art.acorn.co.uk/SALES/DEVELOPERS/resource/docs/sales/prices.txt More Conference Bits -------------------- The scheme for developers who couldn't make it to the conference to be able to order conference packs has been approved; I'm currently waiting for a product code to be allocated. We're completely out of packs right now (we built enough for the conference attendees plus about half a dozen more, and we didn't predict that assorted senior management people here would want them...), but hopefully we'll be able to source more artwork and folders etc next week. We still have plenty CDs around, so there's no problem in that area! A number of developers have requested a list of conference attendees; we're working on sourcing this, although it is unlikely to appear before next week. Cheers,
