ReadMe for XEarth 0.11b
-----------------------

This is a 32-bit build of the well-known XEarth program, which displays
an image of the Earth on the RISC OS pinboard. The image is accurately
shaded according to the position of the sun, and is updated regularly.
The display is highly configurable, and the program can also be used to
generate useful still and animated images of the globe.

Installation
------------
Put the !XEarth application in a convenient location. If you have a
previous copy, rename or delete it -- do not copy the new version
over the old.

This version of XEarth uses the !ConfiX universal configuration utility.
It is freely available from the X-Ample Technology web site:

  http://www.xat.nl/en/riscos/sw/confix/

All Oregano2 users (and hence all Iyonix owners) will already have ConfiX,
as will recent purchasers of EasiWriter.

If you wish to create animations, you will need Peter Hartley's InterGIF,
available from here:

  http://utter.chaos.org.uk/~pdh/software/intergif.htm

Note that the version of IGViewer on Peter Hartley's page is not 32-bit
compatible (though InterGIF itself is); there is an unofficial 32-bit
version here:

  http://eis.bris.ac.uk/~ccjpb/ftp/

After installing ConfiX, run !XEarth and click Select on its iconbar icon
to configure the program. For more details, open the application help or
click on the Help button in the configuration window.

Known problems
--------------
* Machines equipped with a Viewfinder do not update the pinboard, due to VF
caching the image -- it thinks it hasn't changed (thanks to David Ruck
for the diagnosis). I'll look into fixing this.

* I've had a report that XEarth apparently prevents an Iyonix shutting down
correctly (it works fine here). Until I get a meaningful bug report
there's not much I can do about this.
