Thynx 2
--------

Thynx 2 is a multi-function application, designed to cram as many
useful features as possible into 32k of memory. You may find that
some of them are supplied by Risc Os 3, and when (if) I get my copy
I will be updating it to support the new features of that operating
system.

The features supplied currently are:

Icons:

TrashCan - Familiar to all Mac users. Dragging a file to this icon
	     causes it to be moved to a special trash area, just in
	     case you want it back.
Read files - Scroll through files at a reasonable speed, this function
	     is not multi tasking.
Set File - By dragging files to an icon, for convience most of
Type the major file types are given in a list window for
       	     instant selection. Click on the icon to open it.
Time Stamp - Time stamp files by dragging them to an icon.
Load Icons - Load a sprite file into the desktop icons area.
Set - By dragging it or one of it's files to the icon,
Directory - clicking it gives a *EX listing of the current directory
Unset - Clicking the icon kills the directory on the current
	     filing system.
CheckMap/ - Verify a disc's directory map by clicking the icon with
Verify <SELECT>, clicking with <ADJUST> does the same but also
	     Verifys the disc itself

Menus:

Trash :
========
This controls the trashcan area, selecting "Open Area" shows
the contents of the area allowing files to be dragged out again.
"Clear Trash" deletes the contents of the area. Trash is affected
by the program's configuration file, see "Extra..Config"

Driver :
=========
This sub menu gives access to windows that lead direct to
devices, for instance the printer device. Files dragged into device
windows will vanish and be sent to the appropriate device, so a file
dragged into the printer window will go direct to the device connected
to the paralell port, this is normally a printer. Please note! If
there is nothing connected nothing happens and the computer appears
to hang. NO RESPONSIBILITY IS TAKEN for data lost in this way.

Desktop :
==========
This give access to the programs desktop management facilities:

Mouse Speed : This allows you to set the resolution of the mouse,
higher numbers make the mouse pointer appear to move faster, but also
affect your ability to finely place the pointer. The submenu is
writable, and pressing return or clicking it will set the mouse
pointer to the speed you entered. By default the submenu shows the
setting of "MouseStep" in your CMOS RAM configuration.

Find Caret : Forces the window containing the caret to the front and
puts the pointer in the centre of it.

Blank Screen : This controls the screen blanker, after the number of
seconds entered in the submenu the screen will go black and the
hourglass bounces across the screen, moving the mouse or pressing a
key returns the desktop to normal. The screen blanker is affected by
the programs configuration file, see "Extra..Config"

Close Windows : Closes all open windows on the desktop, some programs
will ask you to confirm the closure if their window contains changed
data.

Kill Caret : Removes the Caret from the screen.

Clear Sprites : This is of questionable use, it clears the desktop's
ram sprite area, so all the main icons will return to their startup
state, note however that all the other icons will seem to vanish.

Sound:
======
Gives some desktop control of the sound system.

Audio : Turns the audio system on and off, this is equivalent to
*AUDIO ON/OFF

Speaker : Turns only the internal speaker(s) on and off, equivalent
to *SPEAKER ON/OFF

Tuning : Sets the overall tuning, entering a positive or negative
number in the submenu sets the tuning relative the current position.
Entering sets the tuning to normal.

Volume : Sets the system volume, this number should be in the range
0 (quiet).. 127 (loud)

Extra
======
Those nice extra bits, this also contains the configuration options
for various functions as well as controlling the programs config file.

Type:
Gives control over the output produced when a file is dragged to the
show file icon. "Listed" (in the sub menu) will put line numbers
before each line, "Tabs" will expand tab characters into spaces.

ShutDown:
Makes the computer safe ready for it to be switched off, that is it:
* Parks any hard discs.
* Logs off all network servers.
* Closes all open files.

Shut Files:
Closes all open files on all filing systems, this can cure problems
with errors like "File open.." but some programs may object if they
were using them at the time.

Compact:
This menu fully compacts a disc of S M L and D format (E format and
above do not need compaction), the submenu allows you to select the
drive's number.

CMOS:
This option allows you to save the contents of the computers CMOS
RAM area into the !Thynx2 directory, and then reload it using the
appropriate options in the submenu. This facility is useful if
someone using your computer plays games that reconfigure your computer
and also in preparation for the time when your computer forgets it's
configuration...
This option is affected by the configuration file, see below:

Config:
++++++++
The Config submenu allows you to set up various automatic options and
also the look of the program on startup:

Configure options:

When ticked each option takes the named effects when the program is
loaded.

Icon : The program makes an icon on the icon bar when starting up
Main wind : When ticked the program opens the main window, containing
the function icons up on loading.
File wind : As above but for the window containing the list of file
types.
Clear Trash : Automatically delete the contents of the trash can on
loading when ticked.
Restore CMOS : Load the saved CMOS ram file on loading if ticked.
Screen Blank : Switch the screen saver on automatically on loading,
this option stores the value in the "Desktop..Blank Screen..Seconds"
menu in the configuration file.

Save Config : Stores the Configuration file

Function keys

Shift-Ctrl-Tab : Turns mouse pointer to an hourglass for 2 seconds,
just in case you lose the pointer!

Shift-Ctrl-F2 : Star Screen saver off automaticly.

Shift-Ctrl-F4 : Equivalent to "Desktop..Find Caret"

Notes:

The only way to kill the program is to select "Quit" from the main menu, or to
kill it using the task window. Clicking close on the window will only vanish it
if the program has no icon ready you can re-open it by selecting the switcher
icon.
