To whom it concerns.
-------------------

The information in this file only applies to existing users of StrongED, if you are a new user then you can use StrongED just as it is.

Existing users can also skip this file if they do not wish to carry over their current settings. In this case however you should check if there is a copy of !StrED_cfg in Boot:Choices and remove it if so.

Users of StrongED 4.65 alpha3 can move directly to the section: Upgrading ModeWhen files.

Upgrading !StrED_cfg.
-----------------------------

New to this version of StrongED is that all modes are directories, support for text and application modes has been dropped. This means that any modes you have in your copy of StrED_cfg will no longer work. You can use UpdateCfg to bring StrED_cfg up-to-date.

Start UpdateCfg by double-clicking on it and then click on its iconbar icon. A window will pop up to which you must drag your copy of StrED_cfg, then click on the update button to start the update proces.

There will be a flurry of harddisc activity which may last several minutes, depending on the number of modes you have in StrED_cfg. When the update proces has completed you can run StrongED and use it as per normal.

Although UpdateCfg tries to do as much of the conversion as possible there may be a few things that require manual editing, read the section 'What you have to do' of the UpdateCfg manual. In fact you are advised to read all of the manual as it will give a clear picture of what has been changed and why.

UpdateCfg creates a safety copy of your original called StrED_org just in case anything goes wrong. You can revert to your original StrED_cfg by deleting the new StrED_cfg and renaming StrED_org to StrED_cfg, you can then use your old version of StrongED again.

Tip: You might like to copy StrED_cfg to the RAM disc prior to updating it, this will obviously be much quicker, and it's also easier on your harddisc. For this you'll need to create a RAM disc that is at least 4 times the size of your StrED_cfg. Just remember to replace the original StrED_cfg with the updated version, you might also like to keep StrED_org so that you can revert easily should you wish to.

Upgrading ModeWhen files.
------------------------

The single ModeWhen file is no longer supported, if you have edited your copy of ModeWhen then it may be necessary to alter individual ModeWhen files. I would suggest though that you first use what is there and to only make alterations if you really have to.
