RISCOS Samba Server
===================

Welcome to version 0.08 of RISCOS Samba Server. This is a port
of Samba which allows Windows and Unix machines to share RISC OS discs
using the Microsoft File Sharing Protocol (now known as CIFS).

Please read and understand the instructions contained in the HTML
documentation in !smbserver.docs for information on how to configure
!smbserver.

This version of !smbserver has been tested running on RISC OS 4.02 with the
following clients: Windows 98, Windows XP Pro and Linux.

Installation
------------

Download and install version 0.07a of !smbserver and then copy
!RunImage, !Run and modules.SmbServer from the 0.08 archive over
the old !RunImage, !Run and modules.SmbServer.

If you are not running on RISC OS 5, you need the new 32 bit C library
modules. These are in the directory EndUser and provided under the licence
to distribute them allowed by the new Acorn C/C++ development suite.

If running Select you may or may not require the patch in SELECT.

What's new in this release
--------------------------

- Recompiled 0.07a with the new 32 bit Acorn C/C++ tools.

Mimemap Module
--------------

This version of Samba uses the Mimemap module to map RISCOS filetypes to
DOS extensions and visa versa. Please read the documentation for more
information on this.

If you do not have a copy of the Mimemap module a PD version can be
obtained from www.movspclr.co.uk

Bugs and support
----------------

Please send bug reports to samba@merddin.demon.co.uk. Send general chitchat,
nice-to-haves, observations to david@merddin.demon.co.uk. If you find a real
bug then set Debuglevel to 10 in the Global Variables configuration window.
Reproduce the bug, quit !smbserver and send the file !smbserver.Resources.ALogFile
to me. When you restart !smbserver remember to set Debuglevel back to 0 otherwise
it will run slowly and you'll end up with a very large log file!

Have fun!
