                              Version 1.03 of !STem
                             =======================

The files in this distribution include:
      README   - this file
      !STem - the Atari ST emulator application
      !FDImage - creates floppy disk images (version 1.01)
      !TOSInfo - provides information about TOS images (version 1.01)
      MF-9017 - an MDF file for the Iiyama Vision Master Pro 17"

Installation
============
Detailed instructions on how to install and use STem are given in the 'SetUp'
file in the 'Documents' directory (SHIFT double-click on the !STem application
to open it).

If you are installing !STem, !FDImage or !TOSInfo over previous versions, it
should be sufficient just to copy the new files over the old ones.

The application !FDImage is the only way I know of for creating floppy disk
images from existing DOS/Atari floppy disks, thus it is best copied out of the
archive and placed near to the !STem application. However, you may delete it if
you wish. Inside the !FDImage directory (SHIFT double-click on the !FDImage
application to open it), is the 'Documents' directory, which contains various
text files explaining how to use the program.

The application !TOSInfo is optional, and personally I wouldn't bother to remove
it from the archive, as it isn't a great deal of use at the moment. Delete it if
you wish. Inside the !TOSInfo directory (SHIFT double-click on the !TOSInfo
application to open it), is the 'Documents' directory, which contains various
text files explaining how to use the program.

You might also like to add the mode definitions given in the 'MF-9071' file to
your monitor definition file. These modes were designed for an Iiyama Vision
Master Pro 17" monitor, so they may require modification before they will work
on your computer.

*** BE WARNED - altering your monitor definition file could damage your monitor!
If you have any doubts about this, DON'T do it!

Known Problems
==============
Listed below are the main problems which I am aware of, and the solutions to
these problems where they are known:

      Problem: Mouse button clicks are not noticed by the operating system.
       Solution: Move the mouse at the same time as the button is held down.
                 When the button is released, the mouse click will be registered
                 at the current mouse position.
                 Alternatively, generate mouse clicks using the keyboard.

      Problem: Some disks (especially double sided ones) are read incorrectly
                 when using the actual floppy drive attached to the host
                 computer.
       Solution: Convert the disk into an image file (using !FDImage), and map
                 in the image file instead. All the problems should then
                 disappear.

Changes in this Release
=======================
Listed below are some of the changes between this release and the previous one:

     Several important bug fixes to the 68000 emulation code.

     MFP Timer C was speeded up. It is now only 128 times slower than the real
      chip. See the newly added 'MFP Timers' section in the 'SetUp' file for
      further details.

     Joystick support has been tested, and seems to work correctly. For those
      without a joystick the numeric keypad can be used instead.

     TOS version 2.06 (and sometimes 2.05) can now be used - although there are
      still some problems which have yet to be resolved.

Refer to the 'History' and 'SetUp' files for further details about these and
many other changes.
