                        !Runner - by Steve Loft
                        -----------------------

!Runner allows you to run applications from the desktop without opening the
directory holding the application. It's rather like !TinyDirs, but instead
of creating icons on the icon bar, which can get a bit crowded, it allows
you to select the application from a menu.

!Runner can be used in two ways: Firstly, from the command line. thus:

*Run !Runner [<application> <application>...]

!Runner will then install itself on the icon bar, and on it's menu will be
the selected applications. I use this method to start !Runner from the boot
file on my hard disk.

The second way to use !Runner is to drag applications onto its icon on the
icon bar. They will then be installed on the menu as above.

To run an application from !Runner, just select it from the menu.

Version history
---------------

1.00 12-4-91.

First release. Known bugs/problems/restrictions are:

  1. Allows directories to be dragged to it, but tries to run them instead of
opening them. Fairly easy to fix when I get round to it.

  2. The 'Quit' option on the menu moves up as applications are added. Most
(all?) other programs I've seen have Quit at the bottom.

  3. Maximum of 16 applications can be dragged. This is an arbitrary limit
in an attempt to keep the wimpslot down.

  4. No option to remove applications.

  5. Maybe could include applications sprites on menu?

  6. Gives an error message if files are dragged to it. Might be better if
      it just ignores it?

  7. Future version will include a config file which is loaded when !Runner
starts. It will be possible to save the current setup as default at any
      time.

!Runner is Public Domain. Please pass it around, but don't alter it in any
way. A future release will include the source so anyone can improve it if they
wish. !Runner may not be sold for profit (as if anyone could make a profit
from it :-) ). Any comments gratefully received, on any of the following:
