!Help file for !RSlink by Paul Vigay
------------------------------------

Version 1.03 (26th Jun 2006)

This file and all it's associated files are copyright Paul Vigay.
However, I've decided to release it as 'Shareware'. This means that
you are free to pass it around and upload it onto bulletin boards, as
long as all the original files stay intact and unaltered.
If you use the program I would welcome a donation, the amount of which
I shall leave up to you. In return I will send you any updates or new
versions, depending on whether it is worth upgrading from the version
you have.

Anyway, copyright bit over with so lets get on and see what the actual
program does.

Basically, RSlink will allow you to link the Archie up to a serial
device for the purpose of transferring text files from one machine to
the other.

To send a file from the Archie to the other machine, simply drag the
text file from an Archie directory onto the !RSlink icon on the icon
bar. The file will then be sent, with a status window telling you how much
has been transferred so far.

To receive a file, move across from 'Spool' and drag the icon into the
required directory, amending the filename as appropriate.
If no characters are received within the timeout period then no file will
be saved and an error will be reported.

Selecting 'Options' from the menu allows you to set various serial
options, such as baud rate, word format and what action to take on
sending or receiving linefeeds. It also allows you to set the 'task speed'.
This option lets you decide how much the desktop will slow down whilst
transmitting and receiving data. The higher the number, the more time it
will take transferring data and hence the more sluggish the desktop will
become.

This version also includes a 'KeyLink' option from the main menu. When this
is toggled on (a tick appears), then the Archie will read characters from
the RS423 input buffer and automatically insert them into the keyboard
input buffer. This means that you can type into !Edit files or other multi-
tasking applications via the remote keyboard. This could be useful if you
want to type a command from the remote machine, or to simply see if the
link is working correctly.
