PC Disc Reader
by Glynn Clements

This program allows MS-DOS format discs to be read, written and formatted on the Arc. When run, the program adds a grey disc drive icon to the left-hand side of the icon bar.

Clicking Menu over this icon displays a menu with four entries. Info and Quit have their usual actions. Drive leads to a submenu allowing the drive to be selected. If a partition file is present, then choosing the Partition entry at the top of the menu will select it as the current disc. The selected drive is shown on the icon bar icon, with the partition shown as 'P:'.

To access a Partition file, it is necessary for the pathname of the file to be assigned to the system variable PC_Disc$Partition. This should be done with a Set command in the file !PC_Disc.!Run.

Clicking Select or Adjust on the icon bar icon opens a window displaying the contents of the root directory of the selected disc. In many respects the disc acts like a RISC-OS directory viewer. Clicking Select or Adjust on a file or directory selects or deselects it as per usual. Double clicking on a directory causes its contents to replace those in the window. Closing the window moves up a level, or closes the window if at the root. Dragging files to or from a window has the same effect as with a RISC-OS directory viewer.

Clicking Menu over the window displays a menu with options to select all entries, create a new directory, or rename, delete or change the attributes of a file.

To copy a file from one MS-DOS directory to another, run two copies of the application, open a window for each directory, and copy the files between them. The application does not support directory copying, so it is necessary to manually create the directory, then copy its contents.
