!CharSel is an aid to entering characters that are not otherwise easily
enterable from the keyboard, or in situations where the keyboard
character does not bear any resemblance to that which is displayed.

To run !CharSel, double-click on the application and its icon will appear
on the icon. If you then click select over this icon, a window will
appear on the screen displaying the standard system font.

You will notice that as the pointer moves into the font window, a number
will appear below it. This number is ASCII value of the character under
the pointer. It is possible to enter this value at the keyboard by
holding down the 'Alt' key whilst typing in this value on the numeric
keypad. When you release the 'Alt' key, the desired character will be
entered for you.

If you click the select button on the mouse, or press a 'Shift' key on
the keyboard, the desired character will be entered as if it had been
typed at the keyboard. You will find the 'Shift' key useful for entering
characters into menu dialogue boxes as the menu tree will close whenever
you click outside it.

Clicking menu over the font window will cause a menu of fonts to be
displayed, allowing you to change the font in which characters are
displayed.

Clicking 'Adjust' over a character will cause a 'Save' dialogue box to
appear unless the System Font is displayed. The character you are about
to save will appear in this box next to the Draw File icon. The required
filename can be entered in the text box. To save a character, drag the
Draw file icon into the required directory viewer or into the required
application, for example a picture box in an Ovation document.

Configuration
-------------
Configuration of !CharSel can be carried out by opening the !CharSel
application directory and loading the !Run file into !Edit. At the end
of this file is a command in the form:

Run <CharSel$Dir>.!RunImage [INSTALL] [SHOW] [SIZE<size>] ["<fontname>"]

'Install' if specified, causes !CharSel to be installed on the icon bar.

'Show' if specified, causes the selected character to be displayed in
the 'Save' dialogue box. You may wish to switch omit this if access to
fonts is slow, as is often the case with floppy drives or when memory is
tight.

'Size' if specified, sets the point size of antialiased fonts.

It is also possible to make !CharSel startup with a font other than the
system font by enclosing the name of the required font in quotes. eg.
"Vogue.Medium".
