FONTSELECT is a small iconbar application which cannot handle
fonts individually, such as other (more sofisticated) font manager
programs, but which does let you easily select or deselect
your own font directories.

The application is saved to harddisc as !FontSelect.
It entirely replaces the familiar Acorn font-directories.

!FontSelect has a subdirectory named 'fonts' in which all
your personal font directories can be saved.
Open the application directory in the usual way by double
clicking on it whilst holding down Shift and find the subdirec-
tory 'Fonts'. Open this directory as well and create now your
own font directories. These directories do not necessarily have to
be application directories, like the original Acorn font directories;
make them real directories, so that you can use all ten characters
for the name. Finally, don't forget to move the relevant fonts in it!

Start the program by double clicking on the !FontSelect icon.
(It is a good idea to put the program in your boot sequence).
The FontSelect icon appears on the iconbar. When clicking
on it, the main window pops up with all the names of your
previously created font directories in it. You now can select or
deselect them and finally install your choice by clicking 'Install'.

If you want a special font configuration to be saved as default,
use the iconbar menu, and choose "Save as default'.
The next time you start !Fonts you will find your personal
configuration already installed.
(ROM-fonts will always be installed by default. You only can
deselect them manually).

Apart from an easy access to a huge number of fonts, FontSelect
is also useful with programs which can only handle a limited
number of them (like !FormEd). You just deselect all the font
directories, but leave the Rom-fonts.

NOTES

* Be careful not to create any other files than font directories
in the subdirectory 'Fonts', as FontSelect would recognise
such files as font directories as well.

* The maximum number of font directories is limited to 77 (at least,
on pre-RISCOS4 machines), which is probably satisfying.

* FontSelect is protected against the so called 'Buffer overflow'
when the total string of font directories is larger then 256 bytes.
If so, the program will give a warning, after which you can make
  a new choice.
(Due to this limitation you will probably never be able to chain
more then 7 or 8 different font directories, or even less).

Version 1.00
* Rewritten from scratch. Uses only 24 Kb.

Version 1.01
* Support for long filenames (RISC OS 4)

Version 1.01b
* Removed absolute dir settings
