Software speed testing for the ARM3.

Aleph One offer a speed testing service to prospective buyers of the Aleph One ARM3 upgrade. To use this service simply send a disk conforming to the specifications given below along with a stamped addressed envelope for return of the disk and results.

1) The disk should contain a file called $.!Boot which when run initialises any system variables, runs the main program and prints the time take.

2) You should not assume the availability of any resources such as special file you have not put on the disk other than the shared C library and the standard floating point emulator. The test machine will not necessarily have a hard disk or more than one megabyte of RAM.

3) Disks which change the CMOS RAM configuration will NOT be tested.

4) The disk will be run twice, once with an ARM3 with cache on and once without. Aleph one will return the disk with the times printed by the two runs and the ratio of the two. Any additional information should be sent to a disk file - the original disk will be returned with any files produced by running it.

5) The test program should not take more than 5 minutes to compleat when run with an ARM2.

6) The test disk will be run on a machine running the standard RISC OS in ROM. All modules will be inserted.
