RISC OS DeskTop Address Book Utility
14
---------- Version I 1.03 April 1991 ----------

This application has been designed to operate
in the multi-tasking window environment of the
RISC OS DeskTop. It also utilises the message
passing facility of the DeskTop for loading and
saving {dragging icons} and mode changes. It
will therefore operate in any mode that your
monitor will support.

FileType &1AB is utilised by this application
for any datafiles used. However, the files are
essentially ASCII or text files, and therefore
compatible with !Edit and a wide range of other
applications.
It is hoped to include file export options, ie;
Comma Seperated and Wordprocessor formats in a
future version.

---------------- Hints & Tips -----------------
Merging two (or more) address files:
If you only want to load an address file, just
drag it onto the !Address icon on the iconbar.
If, however, you wish to merge two files into
one, drag it into the main address book window.
This will add the new records onto the end of
the already loaded file. N.B. Double clicking
on a file will LOAD not merge it.

Printing:
If you only want to print the Name & Phone No
fields the print routine does it in a special
format, with the number appearing alongside the
name. You can Abort a printout at any time, but
this will take a while, depending on the size
of your printer's buffer.

*** Now includes label printing facilities! ***

-------------- Main Menu Choices --------------
After clicking the 'Menu' mouse button in the
main Address Book window the following menu
choices become available:

Add Record - This will create an empty record
at the current location.
Delete Record - This will delete the displayed
record from memory.

Goto Record - By entering the record number you
can move straight to that record. Useful after
a search has displayed a matched record.

Label Setup - This opens the label setup window
to enable the various margins, etc to be setup.
Clicking 'OK' will save these settings to disc
ready for next time.

Print - This opens the printer options window
to enable various printout configurations to be
setup. Printing will start only after the 'OK'
button has been clicked on.

Save - This offers you the usual 'Save as:' box
so that you can drag a file icon to a directory
viewer to save.

Search - This option opens up a window for the
entry of a string. The string will be treated
as 'wildcarded' - {ie it will search for any
occurrence of the string in any larger string}.

You can also force this string search to be
'Case Sensitive'. Searching will begin after
clicking on the 'OK' button.

After the search is complete a Matched Records
window will open showing any records that match
the search string. These matched records can be
scrolled through using the usual forwards and
back buttons.
The records displayed may also be saved as a
seperate file - click menu whilst over the
Matched Records window to pop up a 'Save as:'
box.

Sort - This option will sort the Address Book
entries alphabetically by the Name field. This
sort routine is rather slow, if anyone has any
better BASIC sort routines please let me know!
